Men's Elite Championship Semifinals

Go Fast 10, Team 21 9 - Game Stats
By Garrett Fitzgerald

Rocco Romero was under the radar most of the game, but he certainly stuck out when his team needed him.

Romero opened the game’s scoring to put Go Fast ahead 1-0 in the first quarter and for almost the rest of the game he was held scoreless. However with just 13 seconds left in the game, and the score tied 9-9, Romero unleashed a cannon of a shot that got past Team 21 goalie Jake Myers for the game winning goal.

The game between the two very evenly matched teams was tight throughout. While the only time Team 21 led was in the 4th quarter, Go Fast never had more than a two goal lead, and the score was tied at eight different points in the game.

Team 21 was with the services of their leading scorer Matt Seibald who sustained a concussion in team’s quarterfinal game. With Seibald out Team 21’s Henry Bartlett and David Pittard filled in as best they could. Both Bartlett and Pittard had great games, Bartlett scored four goals and an assist while Pittard scored three goals of his own.

For Go Fast, Jim Connolly had three goals on the day, and Michael Donegar chipped in with two goals as well. Goalie Doc Schneider had an incredible day in net, registering seventeen saves. Schneider made several spectacular one on one saves when Team 21 got inside the Go Fast defense.

Go Fast will face the tournament dark horse, Team Lax Grip tomorrow in the tournament finals on Ford Field at 2:30pm.

Team Lax Grip 11, Young Guns 6 - Game Stats
By Garrett Fitzgerald

In the other semifinal, the tournament dark horse and #12 seed, Team Lax Grip left no doubt that they disserved their spot in this year’s championship.

In the game Lax Grip went up early and never relinquished their lead. The Young Guns put in a spirited effort and never quit but the experience and talent of Team Lax Grip was just too much to handle. Team Lax Grip was ahead 2-1 after the first quarter and then was able to shut out the Young Guns in the 2nd quarter to take a 4-1 lead into halftime.

In the second half the defense of Lax Grip really clamped down behind the solid goalie play of Canadian national team goalie Chris Sanderson. Sanderson had another good day for Lax Grip, making fourteen saves while only allowing five goals.

Andrew Wasick paced team Lax Grip with four goals and three assists. Wasick was a force on the field, and did a great job with his shot selection. For the Young Guns Ryan Zordoni had a good day tallying two goals and an assist.

Team Lax Grip will face their toughest match up yet when they face Go Fast tomorrow for the championship. Even though they are considered the underdog, don’t be surprised to see them walk away with the upset.
